Wow,mid-April, how did that happen so fast? I just returned from a few glorious days teaching at Artfest in Port Townsend, WA. My students were fantastic, I am always amazed how much I learn while teaching. I also had the pleasure of taking a class with Anne Bagby. I learned how to carve stamps with a lino-cutter. It was super fun and I am hoping to have some time to experiment with making some large stamps to use in clay. The vendor show was incredible, as always. Many thanks to all of you who did your best to support our economy that evening! Lastly many thanks to Tracy and Teesha Moore (www.teeshamoore.com) for putting this incredible annual retreat together. I know that it takes countless hours and your efforts are very much appreciated! I am now in the process of getting some new work together for Artwalk which takes place in Little Italy the last weekend of April. I will be on Fir Street, down on the west end. Hope to see you there!

Spring is just about here! Having spent the last week in Baltimore at the National Polymer Clay Guild conference where it snowed, I must say I am happy to live in sunny southern Cali.!! The conference was wonderful. It was great meeting so many talented people that I have only known online. The seminars and presentations were thorough and I gleaned a lot of information from them. The gallery show was total eye candy. I really appreciate all of the efforts by everyone who was involved in making Synergy such a success. I am now just in the process of getting things ready for a local workshop which will be followed by one in Boston. This is a busy time of year with lots of teaching engagements, vendor shows, collaborative projects and trying to create some new work too! (hence the March Madness!) I have been having fun working on a few collages, it has been awhile since I have done something other than mosaics! Also do check out the fantastic new retreat in Wisconsin where I will be teaching in October. The website is: www.raevns-nest-art-retreat.com Ok, that's it for now....back to work!

Off and running.....

Wow, the New Year just began and I already feel so far behind! How does that happen??!! I am just getting ready for quite a bit of travel. Off to Baltimore at the end of the month for the National Polymer Clay Guild annual conference, Synergy. Home for a few weeks then off to teach in Boston, then back to the West Coast for Artfest in the Seattle area, followed by a quick trip to Santa Fe. In between, I have been super busy creating a few new pieces for the vendor shows that go along with these venues. I took a workshop with Lisa Bebi (www.lisabebiart.com) last week and realized how I have missed painting. It was really fun combining collage (family photos)with paint and I hope to do a bit more as time permits. That is also the nice part about Project 8, getting a chance to work in various mediums that I haven't had time to dabble in. So off to go play....

Laurie talks about how she started using polymer clay 15 years ago how and it has evolved into an art form she calls Expressive Mosaics. She shows how you can use polymer clay, rubber stamps, collage and assemblage techniques to create your own personal expression. Her new book, Mixed Media Mosaics, will be available on July 1, 2007.
